WASHINGTON, March 23, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- American Federation of Government Employees National President J. David Cox Sr. today issued the following statement on the House's fiscal 2016 proposed budget:
"House leadership has proposed a budget that can only be described as a direct assault on America's workforce. Slashing the pay, benefits, and jobs of the people who deliver our mail, guard our borders, treat our veterans, and keep terrorists off planes won't make for a 'stronger America,' as the budget proclaims. On the contrary, this budget accelerates a race to the bottom by targeting low- and middle-income workers for financial pain and hardship.
"The budget proposes an obscene $318 billion in cuts to federal and postal employees' wages, benefits and jobs over the next 10 years. This is on top of the nearly $160 billion in cuts that federal employees already have suffered under the guise of fiscal austerity.
"When is enough going to be enough? Congress needs to stop the insanity and start working on real solutions that will end the sequester without slashing the pay, benefits and jobs of working people."
The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) is the largest federal employee union, representing 670,000 workers in the federal government and the government of the District of Columbia.
