WASHINGTON, Nov. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Howard University School of Law co-sponsored the seventh session of the Federal Trade Commission's hearings on Competition and Consumer Protection in the 21st Century. The hearings were held in the Moot Court Room at the Howard University law school campus.
"Howard University School of Law was honored to co-host the FTC hearings dealing with algorithms, artificial intelligence, and predictive analytics," says Dean Holley-Walker, who provided closing remarks at the hearing. "We were pleased to welcome academics, lawyers, technologists, scientists, and economists to Howard's campus to reflect on the way market structure and competition will be impacted by the technology of the future."
Law professor Andrew I. Gavil, an expert on antitrust law, federal regulation, civil procedure, and complex litigation, provided opening remarks. Harry Keeling, associate professor of engineering and founding director of Howard West, Howard's computer science residency program with Google, moderated a panel on algorithms, artificial intelligence, and predictive analysis. The FTC Hearings Initiative is a series of public hearings examining whether broad-based changes in the economy, evolving business practices, new technologies, or international developments might require adjustments to competition and consumer protection law, enforcement priorities, and policy.
