Federal and International Agencies Address Intellectual Property Theft
STOPfakes.gov Roadshow: Protecting Your IP broad
PHILADELPHIA, April 7, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Experts from U.S. Patent & Trade Office (USPTO), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Office of Intellectual Property Rights (OIPR) will address IP protection, enforcement strategies, and best practices to avoid common pitfalls. The growth in technology and communications has made counterfeit goods more accessible than ever before. According to the USPTO, the international theft of American intellectual property (IP) is measured in the hundreds of billions of dollars per year at a tremendous cost in terms of jobs, revenue, and rewards to inventors and those who purchase licenses to provide IP intensive goods and services.
Consequently STOPfakes.gov is designed to equip U.S. businesses with the tools to safeguard their technology such as developing IPR language for licensing and subcontracting contracts; conducting due diligence on potential foreign partners; recording your U.S.-registered trademarks and copyrights with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and; securing and registering patents, trademarks, and copyrights in key foreign markets. Companies will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with IP experts to receive counseling on how best to prevent intellectual property theft abroad.
