Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH)® Launches 2017 #HurricaneStrong
Award-winning national hurricane resilience initiative back for the second year with launch during NOAA Hurricane Awareness Tour
TALLAHASSEE, Fla., May 8, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In conjunction with National Hurricane Preparedness Week and the NOAA Hurricane Awareness Tour (HAT), the FLASH Partnership is bringing back the award-winning National Hurricane Resilience Initiative - #HurricaneStrong campaign for a second year in 2017.
Last year, the campaign helped increase public safety and reduce economic losses from hurricanes by reaching tens of millions of residents in hurricane-exposed states with five key messages, including:
- Personal Safety - Know your evacuation zone
- Family Preparedness - Build a disaster supply kit
- Financial Security - Have an insurance checkup
- Damage Prevention - Strengthen your home
- Community Service - Help your neighbor
In 2016, the FLASH Partnership, including BASF Corporation, Huber Engineered Woods, Simpson Strong-Tie, State Farm, The Home Depot and USAA joined FEMA, NOAA, and The Weather Channel to create #HurricaneStrong. The campaign garnered national attention, helped advance hurricane preparedness, and recently won the Outstanding Achievement in Public Awareness Award at the National Hurricane Conference in New Orleans. The program is highlighted in this brief video.
"Individuals and families are the most critical decision-makers ahead of hurricanes, and their actions are essential to drive survival and recovery," said FLASH President and CEO Leslie Chapman-Henderson. "We're back with #HurricaneStrong to support those in the path of deadly storms with information to help them get ready and stay ready throughout the season."
As in 2016, the 2017 #HurricaneStrong campaign is offering hurricane safety and mitigation information for families and practitioners through business summits, digital channels, home improvement store workshops, kids programming, media outreach, school lesson plans, special events, and a Twitter campaign.
New features this year include the addition of the State Farm "Good Neighbor Crew" experience and a #HurricaneStrong Home rebuild in Breezy Point, New York. For information about participation in #HurricaneStrong, visit HurricaneStrong.org.
