FEBC: During the Giving Holiday Season, It's Important to Be Safe, but Can Safety Be Taken Too Far?
EMERYVILLE, Calif., Nov. 26, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- November for many people brings out the idea and want of giving to others because there's so much to be thankful for in their lives and they want to spread that around. For the people who are on the receiving end of kind wishes, it may be one of the few things that helps them get through tough times. Financial Education Benefits Center (FEBC), a membership benefits company, offers relevant discounts for things like groceries which may help members who are interested in sharing the gift of a good meal to those in need.
"When doing charity work, it's important to keep safety in mind, so everyone can focus on the gifts," said Jennifer Martinez, manager at FEBC. In the case of making food for those less fortunate, keeping a clean workstation, fresh supplies, and understanding rules around working with food goes a long way. Safety is important, but in some cases some people might say that those who try to enforce safety rules are going too far. In Kansas City, Missouri a food donation group recently had bleach poured on their food that was meant to be shared with the homeless community, so as to make it inedible. The ones pouring the bleach were the local police department. The city's public health department made their own video justifying their actions. In the video made by the charity group, some of the members say they had a difficult time believing the main focus was health, considering the department left the bleach covered food in an open trash bag on the ground after they were done.
But in the holiday spirit, it's important to not just give but to be still be kind even in the face of adversity. Helping members better afford day to day items is just one of the ways FEBC does its part to make things easier, to help them better achieve personal wellness. "Giving back to the community, especially those less fortunate, is part of what the holiday season is about. From our family to yours, have a wonderful holiday season," Martinez.
