Featherstone Foundation, Mexican Embassy Establish College Scholarship at University of Baltimore to Empower Latino Students
BALTIMORE, Feb. 16, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The inaugural Featherstone College Scholarship created by the William & Lanaea C. Featherstone Foundation in partnership with the Consular Section of the Mexican Embassy in Washington, D.C., will provide six University of Baltimore students with $2,000 merit-based awards as an incentive to increase Latino enrollment in higher education.

The Featherstone scholarship offers a practical solution to the wealth gap debate, helping to make college attainable for underserved populations. "We seek to increase educational opportunities for low-income for Mexican students residing in the United States," said Minister Juan Carlos Mendoza, head of the Consular Section of the Mexican Embassy. "The Featherstone Foundation is a lynchpin in the Latino community; we are thrilled to partner on a program that encourages academic excellence."

Featherstone, president of the Featherstone Foundation and OSI-Baltimore Community Fellow alumna.
Featherstone scholarships are open to high school seniors who plan to start their first semester at the University of Baltimore, undergraduate students transferring to UB, as well as current UB freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors. Interested students who meet the criteria may apply online by the March 15 scholarship deadline.
