SANTA MONICA, Calif., Jan. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- FEARNET is dishing out some good old-fashioned revenge this month, with Park Chan-wook's (STOKER) critically acclaimed "Vengeance Trilogy," on Thursday, February 6, featuring network premieres of OLDBOY, SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE, and SYMPATHY FOR MR. VENGEANCE. For these three characters, the best revenge isn't living well—it's making sure their enemies don't live at all.
The fan favorite OLDBOY (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT)—which took home the Grand Prize of the Jury at the Cannes Film Festival—opens the marathon, with a man who has been mysteriously held captive for 15 years. Suddenly set free, equipped with money, a cell phone, and designer clothes, he sets out on a path of death and destruction to discover his tormentor's identity and unlock the truth behind his imprisonment. SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE (10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT) follows, as a framed woman is released from prison after serving 13 years for the murder of a child. Seeking to salvage her relationship with her daughter, she begins a quest to hunt down the real killer, and bring peace to the families of his victims. SYMPATHY FOR MR. VENGEANCE (1 a.m. ET/10 p.m. PT) brings the evening to an end, with a desperate man in need of money for his sister's kidney operation. When thieves run off with his organ and his cash, his life is thrown into a violent spiral of kidnap and murder that blurs the line between what is right and what is wrong.
Other February Highlights Include:
- "Expedition FEAR" – Every Friday (10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT)
A new month of "Expedition FEAR" kicks off on February 7, with the Hong Kong horror show THE CHILD'S EYE (10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT), the Pang Brothers' (THE EYE) supernatural chiller about six friends stranded at an old hotel, whose underground passages are home to ghosts and monsters. And Noomi Rapace (PROMETHEUS) stars in Norway's THE MONITOR (10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT), as a single mother who hears disturbing sounds coming from a baby monitor. On February 14, a family of cannibals must figure out how to survive, following the death of their patriarch, in Mexico's WE ARE WHAT WE ARE (10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT). And a man has five days to unravel the mystery of his 15-year captivity in OLDBOY (12 a.m. ET/9 p.m. PT), Park Chan-wook's celebrated tale of murder and revenge.
On February 21, a young couple is haunted by eerie images after fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run accident in Thailand's SHUTTER (10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT). Then, Mia Farrow stars as a blind woman who comes home to a crime scene... and the madman is still in the house, in the UK's classic serial killer thriller SEE NO EVIL (12 a.m. ET/9 p.m. PT). On February 28, it's the Irish zombie romp BOY EATS GIRL (10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT), with a bullied teen reanimated by black magic, sending him on a bloody quest for his lost love. And, before you see him take on the Daleks and Cybermen, watch Peter Capaldi (DOCTOR WHO) in action as Father Steve, helping teens stalked by a werewolf in the Scottish highlands in WILD COUNTRY (12 a.m. ET/9 p.m. PT). - 'THE CRAFT' (Network Premiere) – Sunday, February 16 (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT)
THE MENTALIST's Robin Tunney leads an all-star cast, as a troubled teen who befriends a group of girls (Neve Campbell, Fairuza Balk, Rachel True), rumored to be witches, at her new high school. With their coven complete, and more powerful than ever, the girls perform the "Invocation of the Spirit." But their actions have deadly consequences that even they cannot foresee. - "Wicked & Wild" Marathon – Thursday, February 20 (6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT)
Grab your cauldron and wolfsbane, and settle in for a night of witches and werewolves in this six-film shriek fest. First, Chace Crawford (GOSSIP GIRL) and Sebastian Stan (CAPTAIN AMERICA) front the Sons of Ipswich, teenage warlocks who rule the school, until an old enemy (Taylor Kitsch, LONE SURVIVOR) returns, threatening to destroy everything in Renny Harlin's THE COVENANT (6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT). Next, a mild-mannered man becomes THE WEREWOLF (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT) when scientists inject him with a serum, in this '50s B-movie favorite. Then, a werewolf hunts teens on a hiking trip in WILD COUNTRY (10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT), featuring a special appearance by DOCTOR WHO's Peter Capaldi. THE CRAFT (12 a.m. ET/9 p.m. PT) follows, with a powerful coven of teen witches (Neve Campbell, Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk, Rachel True) whose abilities lead them down a path of darkness. And a lusty encounter transforms a man into a bloodthirsty beast in WEREWOLF: THE DEVIL'S HOUND (2 a.m. ET/11 p.m. PT). Joe Dante's lycanthrope classic THE HOWLING (4 a.m. ET/1 a.m. PT) closes the witching hour, with genre icon Dee Wallace (THE LORDS OF SALEM) as a reporter who discovers a colony of werewolves at a secluded retreat. - 'VAMPIRE' (Broadcast Premiere) – Sunday, February 23 (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT)
Kevin Zegers (THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS, FROZEN) stars as a biology professor and bloodsucker, feeding on suicidal young women who give their lives to satisfy his hunger. The film also boasts a star-studded roster that includes Oscar nominee Keisha Castle-Hughes (REVENGE OF THE SITH), Amanda Plummer (PULP FICTION), Adelaide Clemens (SILENT HILL: REVELATION), Kristin Kreuk (SMALLVILLE), and Rachael Leigh Cook (PERCEPTION). - "Shorts Spotlight" – Every Monday on FEARNET.com
FEARNET.com's 2014 "Shorts Spotlight" launches on Monday, February 3, as THE CAPTURED BIRD heads a fresh crop of 25 short films, with a new short uploaded to the site every Monday. As an added bonus, each film will run with filmmaker introductions made exclusively for FEARNET. THE CAPTURED BIRD—directed by former RUE MORGUE editor Jovanka Vuckovic and executive produced by legendary genre auteur, Guillermo del Toro—is a darkly poetic fable starring ORPHAN BLACK's Skyler Wexler as a young girl whose day at the playground turns into a nightmare, as she witnesses the birth of five supernatural beings that threaten the existence of her world.
Other noteworthy entries include the animated POSTHUMAN, with Tricia Helfer (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, KILLER WOMEN) lending her voice to the tale of a young man and his dog, in a future where espionage, super-science and assassins reign supreme; the Sundance darling BEAR, written and directed by stuntman Nash Edgerton, who also stars as a man with a new girlfriend (Teresa Palmer, WARM BODIES), who just hasn't quite learned his lesson; and SINISTER's Danielle Kotch stars in THE BANISHING, a harrowing take on family ties, true love, and murder, when two sisters decide to take the supernatural into their own hands.
