FCC Broadband Report Shows Cablevision's Optimum Online Exceeds 100 Percent Of Advertised Speeds Across Both Full-day And Peak Weeknight Hours
Report Recognizes Cablevision As One Of Nation's Leading Broadband Providers
BETHPAGE, N.Y., July 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Cablevision Systems Corp. (NYSE: CVC) was recognized in today's "Measuring Broadband America" FCC report as one of the nation's leading broadband providers, delivering in excess of 100 percent of advertised speeds, on average, across the entire day and peak weeknight periods for both the core Optimum Online high-speed Internet service and the Optimum Online Boost Plus premier tier.
The FCC's latest report, based on data from the testing firm SamKnows, found that customers of Cablevision's core Optimum Online service received 128 percent of advertised speeds during peak weekday hours, and Optimum Online Boost Plus customers received 113 percent of advertised speeds during peak hours. Both services also exceeded 100 percent of advertised speeds, on average, both downstream and upstream across a 24-hour day.
"Optimum Online is by many measures the most successful broadband service in the nation, because we offer speed and reliability that exceeds our customers' expectations," said Amalia O'Sullivan, Cablevision's vice president of broadband product operations. "This report demonstrates our commitment to delivering more than 100 percent of the speeds we advertise to our broadband customers – over the entire day and during peak hours – in addition to free access to the nation's largest WiFi network and other valuable product features and enhancements."
Cablevision spent $140 million on recent upgrades to its broadband network, and continues to provide customers with three levels of high-speed Internet service: Optimum Online, delivering speeds of up to 15 megabits-per-second (Mbps) downstream and 2 Mbps upstream, Optimum Online Boost Plus, delivering speeds of up to 50 Mbps downstream and 8 Mbps upstream, and Optimum Online Ultra, delivering speeds of up to 101 Mbps downstream and 15 Mbps upstream.
Every level of Optimum Online includes free access to Optimum WiFi, the nation's largest WiFi network, with more than 35,000 indoor and outdoor hotspots deployed across Cablevision's East service area in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Cablevision customers connect to the Internet more than 1 million times a day over Optimum WiFi, more information is located at www.optimumwifi.com
