Fayette County Woman Wins $225,000 from PA Lottery's Cash 5
LEMONT FURNACE, Pa., Nov. 9, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Loretta Martinchalk, of Lemont Furnace, Fayette County, won $225,015.50 from the Pennsylvania Lottery's Sept. 8 Cash 5 drawing.
Lottery Area Manager Terri Hopkins today presented a ceremonial check to Martinchalk at Nickman's Drug in Lemont Furnace, where the ticket was purchased. The store receives a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
"I have eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, so I'll probably be spending some of it on them," said Martinchalk. "The money will sure come in handy for a lot of people."
Martinchalk's ticket matched all five numbers drawn, 03-31-38-40-42, to win the Sept. 8 Cash 5 jackpot worth $225,000, less 25 percent federal withholding. Her jackpot-winning ticket also had another line of numbers that matched three of the five numbers drawn, for an additional $15.50 prize.
Martinchalk, 81, says she has played different Lottery games since the Lottery first began nearly four decades ago, but this is the first time she won a Cash 5 jackpot.
"I've had smaller winners, even for $10,000 or so, but nothing big like this," said Martinchalk.
How to play Cash 5: To play Cash 5, players pay $1 and select five of 43 numbers. Players may select their own numbers using Cash 5 play slips, or they may opt for computer-selected quick picks. Players must match all five numbers drawn to win the jackpot. The starting jackpot is $125,000 and grows until it is won. The odds of winning a Cash 5 jackpot are 1-in-962,598; overall odds of winning a Cash 5 prize are 1-in-10.51. Cash 5 is the longest-running jackpot game in Pennsylvania Lottery history. Cash 5 tickets first went on sale April 23, 1992.
