BOCA RATON, Fla., Feb. 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The CFA Society South Florida is pleased to announce that a team of four students from Florida Atlantic University's Financial Analyst Program has been named a regional competitor for the CFA Institute Research Challenge.
The team's research project on technology distributor TechData beat out entries from the University of Florida, Florida State University and Stetson University for the honor.
The FAU students, Bradley Schwartzmann, Marcus Stewart, Oscar Isoba and James Engstrom, will represent the state of Florida in a regional competition scheduled to take place April 13 in Chicago. Should the students win out against a host of other teams from the U.S., Canada and Latin America, their team will have a chance to compete for the global championship against teams from the Asia Pacific region and a region made up of Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The CFA Institute Research Challenge brings together hundreds of teams of students from universities all over the world to see who can best analyze and make investment recommendations for a publicly traded company active in their region. With the help of feedback from faculty advisers and financial industry mentors, the students craft a detailed report of the company's performance, competition and future prospects. Then, they present and defend their findings to a judging panel made of industry professionals.
The competition is primarily designed to give students a chance to gain valuable practical experience and help prepare them for careers as high-performing finance professionals. Since the first competition in the 2006-2007 season, more than 900 universities in over 75 countries have participated.
