Fattah Trip to Ireland Gains Broader International Significance
WASHINGTON, May 15, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Invited by the 2013 Irish Presidency of the European Union and the European Commission, Congressman Fattah will be participating in an invitation-only conference: Healthy Brain: Healthy Europe—A new horizon for brain research and healthcare.
Fattah's trip comes on the heels of an announcement from British Prime Minister David Cameron stating that Great Britain's presidency of the G8 will prioritize dementia research as an important global issue. "Increasingly, the international community is recognizing the importance of neuroscience and its economic impact on the global economy," said Fattah. "This recognition is underscored by Great Britain's commitment to use their presidency of the G8 to further dementia research. Through an international commitment to neuroscience, we will be able to make meaningful progress in the understanding of the brain."
The invitation to participate in the conference comes to Congressman Fattah as he is the lead neuroscience research advocate in Congress. In 2011, the Congressman created the Fattah Neuroscience Initiative, a policy designed to make game-changing developments in the field of brain research. While in Dublin, Fattah will meet with Philadelphia-based businesses that operate in Ireland to discuss the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) and other trade related issues.
