Fattah Supports City of Philadelphia Joining School Funding Lawsuit against Pennsylvania Department of Education
WASHINGTON, Feb. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA) issued the following statement on the news that the City of Philadelphia has weighed in on the lawsuit brought against the Pennsylvania Department of Education in November 2014 arguing that the Commonwealth is not equitable in distributing educating funding across the state. Fattah has been a longtime advocate for school funding equity; in the 114th Congress he has reintroduced the Fiscal Fairness Act and the Student Bill of Rights:
"I strongly support the City of Philadelphia joining this lawsuit, and fighting for our students to have better educational opportunities. The state has an obligation to ensure that its school districts receive equitable resources and funding. Our students deserve better than the status quo, and I am proud to see the City has joined in this important challenge to the Pennsylvania Department of Education."
