Fattah Statement on Vice President Biden's Infrastructure Event in Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-02), a Senior Member on the House Appropriations Committee and lead Democrat on the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and related agencies released the following statement after Vice President Joe Biden's speech at Philadelphia's 30th Street Station and the unveiling of Amtrak's Cities Sprinter electric locomotive:
"It was an honor to join Vice President Biden and Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx in Philadelphia today to help unveil Amtrak's new Cities Sprinter train and advocate for the modernization of our country's transit and infrastructure—especially passenger rail. Rail has no greater champion than Vice President Biden, and I commend our Administration's efforts to make investing in high-speed rail a national priority.
"It was an exciting day for Amtrak, for the Northeast Corridor, and for Philadelphia. Our city not only boasts Amtrak's third busiest train station, but was also responsible for manufacturing the steel handrails and tie-rods that adorn the new locomotives. Both here and around the country, we can thank passenger rail for increasing tourism, boosting our economy, creating jobs, and easing congestion on our highways and air routes. Our country's transit future depends heavily on our increased commitment to rail, and I look forward to our city's continued efforts with Amtrak and the Department of Transportation."
