Fattah Statement On Strong October Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, Nov. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), a Senior Member on the House Appropriations Committee and lead Democrat on the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and related agencies, released the following statement on the October jobs numbers released today:
"Today's jobs numbers reveal that our economy is moving forward. The October report showed an employment rate of 7.3% and included revised figures for the previous two months: in August and September the economy added 60,000 more jobs than previously estimated. With private businesses adding 212,000 jobs—the most since February—it marked the 44th consecutive month of private sector job growth. Also boosting confidence was a stronger than expected GDP growth rate of 2.8% for the third quarter.
"Despite last month's government shutdown and its unfortunate consequences, these are strong economic signs. We are on the right path, but Congress must begin to take steps to quicken the recovery. I know there can be more good news if we work together on common sense policies that grow and strengthen the American workforce."
