Fattah Statement on March Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, April 4, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), a Senior Member on the House Appropriations Committee and lead Democrat on the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and related agencies, released the following statement on the March jobs numbers released today:
"Today's job report showed that the economy added 192,000 jobs in the month of March, while the unemployment rate remained steady at 6.7%. As a result, the economy has marked its 49th consecutive month of private job growth, adding 8.9 million private sector jobs in this period.
"While the outlook remains strong, Congress is falling short in its responsibility to pass legislation that will grow the economy, create jobs, and strengthen our middle class. Earlier this week, Dallas Federal Reserve Bank President Richard Fisher admonished Congress for its inability to cooperate, as a result impeding job growth and depressing confidence.
"I commend President Obama and private sector leaders who have moved determinedly and independently on a job creation agenda. And I call on my colleagues in the House to follow suit. With a Congress united in this mission and willing to pass legislation that would raise the minimum wage and restore unemployment benefits to millions of Americans, thousands more jobs could be added."
