Fattah Statement on July Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, Aug. 1, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), a Senior Member on the House Appropriations Committee and lead Democrat on the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and related agencies, released the following statement on the July jobs numbers released today:
"The July jobs report showed that the economy added 209,000 jobs last month, while the unemployment rate was 6.2%. As a result, the economy is now in its 53rd consecutive month of private sector job growth, with 9.9 million jobs added in this period. Additionally, July marked the sixth consecutive month of the economy adding 200,000-plus jobs—a 17-year record.
"Today's figures are further proof that the recovery continues under President Obama's leadership and that his economic policies are working to move our country forward. This good news is buoyed by the recent bipartisan passage of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) with key language included from the Fattah-Gillibrand Urban Jobs Act. With the passage of this bill, we can look forward to improved job-training and modernized workforce development programs, leading to even more economic opportunities for America's working families."
