Fattah Statement on January Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, Feb. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), a Senior Member on the House Appropriations Committee and lead Democrat on the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and related agencies, released the following statement on the January jobs numbers released today:
"Today's job numbers reveal that the unemployment rate fell to 6.6%, and 142,000 private sector jobs were added in January, marking the 47th consecutive month of private sector job growth.
"While today's report is improvement, there is still considerable work to be done to create jobs and make sure those jobs have the skilled workers to fill them. Congress must enact legislation that will accelerate our country's economic recovery; policies like the Urban Jobs Act—which I sponsored in the House—that would train our young people and prepare them with the necessary skills to gain lasting employment. Only when we join together on policies that strengthen and grow our entire workforce, will we see a full economic recovery for all Americans. "
