Fattah Statement on CVS Decision to Stop Selling Cigarettes
PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-02), a Senior Member on the House Appropriations Committee and lead Democrat on the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and related agencies released the following statement on the recent announcement by CVS that they will stop selling cigarettes in their stores:
"I congratulate CVS on its decision to cease selling tobacco products at more than 7,600 retail stores starting October 1st. With five million deaths per year occurring because of tobacco use, I commend their leadership in the effort to make our nation a healthier place to live and work—especially for making this choice based on their company values, and regardless of financial concerns.
"The public and private sector must work together to focus on making the nation healthier, and as one of the leading drug store companies in the country, CVS is in a strategic position to stir other companies to follow suit."
