WASHINGTON, Nov. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-02), Ranking Member on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies and architect of the Fattah Neuroscience Initiative, released the following statement on the announcement that his colleague, Congressman Rush Holt has been named the new incoming CEO of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). AAAS is the world's largest general science society:
"I congratulate my friend and colleague, Congressman Rush Holt on his selection as the next CEO of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Rush has been an enduring and tireless advocate of science since his earliest days in Congress—an institution he has served for the past 16 years after an impressive and wide-ranging career in academia and research. He has truly devoted his lifetime to the discovery of new ideas and helping to increase the world's understanding of the universe.
"It has been an immense pleasure to work with Rush here in the halls of Congress—especially on our efforts to support neuroscience—and I look forward to continuing our work together as he takes the helm at AAAS. As a physicist with the unique vantage of having served in the House of Representatives, Rush will be a tremendous advocate and champion for science and science funding.
"For the past 13 years AAAS has enjoyed the impressive leadership of Alan Leshner, an individual I've had the honor and pleasure to partner with on our promotion of science. I am beyond confident that Congressman Holt will continue to bring a strong vision to AAAS and ably lead the organization as it works to advance science, engineering, and innovation both within the United States and around the globe."
