WASHINGTON, Nov. 23, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-02) will participate in several community events this week in honor of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.
This morning, he joined the Urban Affairs Coalition, Philadelphia Phillies organization, and Brown's Family ShopRite at their Parkside store to give away turkey dinners to local families. The 12th annual event will feed more than 12,000 individuals—2,000 families—in need throughout the region.
Later tonight, he will deliver remarks to the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce at their annual Congressional event at the Westin Hotel. Fattah will join his colleagues, Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) and Representative Charlie Dent (R-PA), and will update chamber members on the current legislative activity in Washington, including his legislative priorities around job creation, medical research, and education.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, November 24, Fattah will join seniors in his district at the annual PALM (Center for Positive Aging in Lower Merion) Thanksgiving luncheon.
Congressman Fattah also released a video message this week on the 2016 Open Enrollment period which runs through January 31, 2016. In the video, Fattah encouraged constituents who are uninsured or may have family or friends that need insurance to visit the healthcare marketplace and learn more about their options to purchase quality and affordable healthcare coverage.
"Over the Thanksgiving dinner or whenever you get a chance, talk to [your family] about getting covered," Congressman Fattah said in his taped remarks. "Let's encourage everyone to be covered, so that as we celebrate the holidays, we can have the greatest gift of all: a healthy life."
