Fattah Backs Education Spending in House War Supplemental Bill
WASHINGTON, May 26 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA) releases the following statement in support of $23 billion dollars for education to be included in the House Appropriations Committee's version of the fiscal 2010 war supplemental spending bill.
"Critical to the success of our nation is the education of its children. Their education is dependent on effective teachers positioned to provide high quality instruction. I support Chairman Obey and intend to vote in support of $23 billion in emergency funding to prevent the massive layoffs of teachers. Our school districts must be financially stable so our students will be well prepared as they begin instruction for the coming year. The professionals who teach, and the students who learn in our nation's public schools must be spared bearing the full brunt of the current economic crisis and under the leadership of Mr. Obey they will be."
