Fattah Announces VA Grant to Delaware Valley Veterans Home
The Veterans Administration has awarded more than half a million dollars to a Philadelphia veterans home
WASHINGTON, June 2, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-02) announced today that U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded $550,706 to Pennsylvania for a grant supporting improvements to the Delaware Valley Veterans Home in Philadelphia. The money will help fund a renovation of the nurse call system and upgrades to the elopement system at the veterans home in the Northeast part of the city—one of six extended care facilities for veterans in the Commonwealth. The Philadelphia home serves 171 veterans and their eligible spouses.
Fattah, who sits on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, said the funding will bolster nursing and dementia care for the patients in the facility. Elopement systems are advanced technology that help monitor patients with dementia; the Delaware Valley Home has a specialized 30-bed unit for veterans suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
"I am pleased to see this funding go towards supporting needed improvements to two critical technology systems at this Philadelphia facility," Congressman Fattah said. "Serving our region's veterans and ensuring they are receiving superior quality care is one of my top priorities; these improvements will help Delaware Valley continue their level of excellent support and healthcare to those who served our nation."
