FastPencil Publishing Launches "500 Miles to Nowhere"
Author Fred Eason Recognizes Deputy U.S. Marshal Bass Reeves in New Book
CAMPBELL, Calif., May 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Today FastPencil announced the launch of "500 Miles to Nowhere: The Legend of Bass Reeves" by author Fred Eason. The historical fiction book, which is inspired by stories and the life and legacy of Bass Reeves, is through FastPencil's self-publishing imprint; a platform that offers a technology-driven publishing option enabling aspiring writers to publish more content.
"500 Miles to Nowhere" focuses on the work of Bass Reeves, who became the first African American to be appointed Deputy U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi River in 1875. Reeves is one of the greatest peace officers in the history of the Old West. He served the "Indian Territory" in Arkansas for 32 years and arrested more than 3,000 fugitives. Several books have been written about Reeves, which Eason details in the book's introduction, but Reeves never achieved the fame of marshals such as Wyatt Earp.
"While this book is mostly a work of fiction, my hope is that it will help Reeves gain the attention that he deserves," said author Fred Eason. "Reeves had many significant accomplishments, yet he still remains somewhat undiscovered. This book is not just about his legacy, but also about all the marshals who risked their lives arresting some of the worst criminals the Wild West."
A monument will be dedicated to Reeves on Saturday, May 26, near the site of the new U.S. Marshals Museum in Fort Smith, Ark. Eason will dedicate a portion of the proceeds from "500 Miles to Nowhere" to the museum and to the Reeves' monument fund.
Eason is also the author of "The Wall Street Money Game," which is a blend of financial truth and fiction around a lifetime of market experiences illustrating how markets are governed by long-term repetitious cycles. Eason was a financial consultant and branch manager for a major brokerage firm from 1979-95 and president of First Commercial Investments from 1995-98. He was president of Delta Trust Investments until he retired in 2008. He remains chairman of the Board of Delta Trust Investments and is an owner of Delta Land Management Company and president of Eason LaRoche Holdings, Inc.
"I am thrilled to publish '500 Miles to Nowhere' and highlight the role Bass Reeves played during such an important era in American history," Eason said. "With FastPencil's easy-to-use tools, speed to press and wide distribution, I am able to get this book into the hands of readers who will find appreciation for what Reeves did for our country."
