Fast and Furious Growth Revving Up for CBRS Through 2022; Mobile Experts Explains When to Shift Gears
Mobile Experts forecasts 750,000 access points shipped by 2022
CAMPBELL, Calif., Oct. 31, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Mobile Experts released an end-to-end review of the CBRS ecosystem. The analysis evaluates technical challenges, cost per GB of data services, and five emerging business models. Market size and growth was investigated for each of the five business models, including:
- Mobile Operator deployment
- Cable operator deployment
- Neutral Host deployment
- Enterprise CBRS or "Private LTE"
- Fixed Wireless Access
In each case, Mobile Experts analysts looked at the business dynamics, the economics of cost per GB, and the level of end-user demand to estimate timing and market growth rate.
In this new report, Infrastructure, SAS connectivity, and core network issues are balanced with handset, CPE, and IoT device availability. More than 50 charts and diagrams are included to illustrate the technical challenges, the business models, and the expected growth for infrastructure and terminals.
"CBRS is coming together quickly," commented Mobile Experts founder Joe Madden. "The shared CBRS spectrum can be effectively used for many different purposes. Because CBRS market growth will be driven by so many distinctive models, we're quite confident that the market will develop rapidly. Some of the fixed-wireless deployments are already underway. Verizon and T-Mobile are moving aggressively, each for slightly different use cases. Cable operators are moving aggressively to upgrade their networks. And the huge industrial and enterprise market is waking up, with large VARs and system integrators putting together CBRS product plans for very wide applicability."
Mobile Experts offers quantitative analysis to illustrate how the cost of CBRS networks is likely to be lower than the cost of licensed LTE or today's DAS alternatives for both operators and enterprises due to the nature of shared spectrum sharing. The favorable economics of LTE-based CBRS access will drive the decision making at cable and mobile operators to use CBRS in many locations currently served by small cells or Wi-Fi access points.
"We're expecting regulatory changes with longer terms for CBRS Priority Access Licenses (PAL) and renewability for licenses so that users can make long term plans. Other changes affected by the regional size of PAL License areas may change, but we expect that some local licenses will be possible to allow for growth in the rural fixed wireless and enterprise areas. We are expecting this market to more than double every year over the next five years, with more than 750,000 access points shipped by 2022," remarked Principal Analyst Kyung Mun.
