The Passion for Fashion Competition offers young fashionistas the opportunity to match their skills against others who share their passion and to earn a fashion tuition scholarship to an Art Institutes school.
"I never expected to do as well as I did. I just decided that it was going to be fun, and see what happens," said Aaron Wardwell, national third place winner of the 2007 Passion for Fashion Competition in Fashion Design. Aaron attended The Art Institute of Indianapolis, a branch of The Art Institute of Phoenix, and graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Fashion Design. His advice to other high school seniors thinking about entering the competition: "Take advantage of every opportunity. Take every chance."
To be eligible to enter, a student must be a high school senior scheduled to graduate in 2012. There are two categories in The Art Institutes Passion for Fashion Competition. In the Fashion Design category, entry requirements include submission of an original evening wear design. In the Fashion Marketing & Merchandising and Retail Management category, entry requirements include a marketing plan of a fashion product line or brand, a merchandising plan of a fashion product line or brand, or a store concept. Competition entries are due by January 20, 2012, to an Art Institutes school offering a fashion program.
Each participating Art Institutes school will name one local first place winner in each applicable category. The local first place winners in each category will each earn a $3,000 tuition scholarship. In addition, the local Passion for Fashion Competition winners from each participating Art Institutes school will progress to the national Passion for Fashion Competition for an opportunity to compete for the grand prize.
The two national competition grand prize winners (one in each competition category) will earn a half- tuition scholarship to their respective Art Institutes school, receive a VIP trip to New York City, participate in a "meet and greet" at Seventeen magazine's New York City offices, have lunch with a Seventeen Style Pro, receive a $500 shopping spree at DKNY with the Style Pro, and a $500 gift card to shop anywhere in the Big Apple.
