Fashion Bug "Spare Change Makes a Difference" Campaign Raises $150,000 For Autism Speaks
BENSALEM, Pa., April 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading women's specialty retailer, Fashion Bug, announced today that the company raised $150,000 for Autism Speaks, the world's leading autism science and advocacy organization. Between March 25th and April 7th of this year Fashion Bug invited customers to "round up at the register" and join in their effort to raise money for Autism Speaks' research, awareness and advocacy initiatives.
Fashion Bug home office and store associates led the efforts for this community awareness and fundraising campaign at all of the retailer's stores across the country in conjunction with Autism Awareness Month. During the two-week nationwide initiative, associates encouraged customers to "round up" purchases to the next whole dollar amount with Fashion Bug donating the spare change to Autism Speaks for support of the charity's programs.
"Our compassionate customer base has once again made us very proud with the support they demonstrated during our recent 'Spare Change Makes a Difference' campaign benefitting our charity partner Autism Speaks," said MaryEllen MacDowell, President of Fashion Bug. "Autism affects an estimated 3 million people in the U. S. and we deeply appreciate that our customers engaged in the research and advocacy efforts for this pervasive disorder. And the spirited dedication of our home office team and store associates to this cause was certainly key in achieving such great results."

About Autism
Autism is a general term used to describe a group of complex developmental brain disorders – autism spectrum disorders – caused by a combination of genes and environmental influences. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by social and behavioral challenges, as well as repetitive behaviors. An estimated 1 in 88 children in the U.S. is on the autism spectrum – a 1000 percent increase in the past 40 years that is only partly explained by improved diagnosis.
