Farmland from Samuel W. Witcher Sr. estate to sell at auction
ROCKY MOUNT, Va., Oct. 31, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- When Sam Witcher and his wife were raising their 11 kids in Franklin County, they were also expanding their small farm by acquiring nearby properties. Now, 361 acres of their land – including three farms – is set for auction Friday, Nov. 21, with Woltz & Associates managing the sale.
"Mr. Witcher was well known throughout the area, and he did well raising beef and dairy cattle, as well as growing tobacco, corn, soybeans and other crops. Now we'll be offering the home and 190 acres that made up his original farm, as well as two other farms and a couple of smaller properties," said Jim Woltz, president of the auction company.
The main farm, located on Mount Carmel Road in Rocky Mount, will be offered in five tracts – one tract consisting of the home, and the land tracts ranging in size from 18 to 81 acres.
A second farm, known as the 108-acre Ashworth Farm, straddles the Pittsylvania and Franklin county line. "The Ashworth Farm has wooded areas, cropland and even a nice pond," said Woltz. It will be offered in five tracts, ranging from 16 acres to 25 acres. The third farm – 50 acres in Franklin County – will sell as a single tract.
The auction will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at the Harvester Performance Center, 450 Franklin Street, Rocky Mount, Virginia. Woltz representatives will be available at the property from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, to guide inspections and provide detailed information.
