LOS ANGELES, Nov. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Fandango, the nation's leading moviegoer destination, announced today that it sold 22% of its "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1" ticket sales on mobile devices during the three-day weekend, setting a new company mobile percentage record.

The previous mobile percentage record holder, July's "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2", previously sold 20% of its Fandango tickets via mobile during its opening weekend.
At the same time, Fandango's award-winning mobile apps for movie showtimes, ticketing and reviews have just exceeded 20 million downloads, revealing a growing trend in moviegoing and ticketing habits.
Fandango's iPhone app has recently garnered the 5-star customer rating - the highest possible ranking among customer ratings – in the iTunes App Store. On top of this, the company won three Webby Awards for its apps earlier this year.
"Mobile has changed the way we go to the movies," says Fandango Executive Vice President and General Manager Rick Butler, "and Fandango prides itself as a leader on the forefront of ticketing technology. Mobile is a critical component of our strategy, as it furthers our goal to make the moviegoing experience even more convenient for film fans."
Fandango apps have been wildly popular ever since Fandango's first mobile app for the iPhone launched in March 2009. Today, more than 40% of all Fandango traffic now comes from mobile devices or tablets.
The Fandango apps enable fans to access movie and theater information at their fingertips. Key features of the apps allow users to purchase tickets for more than 16,000 screens across the U.S., browse movies, watch trailers, view fan reviews and ratings and more. The app is currently available for all major platforms including iOS, Android, BlackBerry, HPwebOS and Windows Phone 7.
In addition to the company's ticket-buying apps, Fandango has been rolling out its paperless and eco-friendly Mobile Ticket product, allowing fans to easily redeem their tickets on their phones via a mobile barcode scanned by the theater's ticket-taker. Just last week, Fandango launched its Mobile Ticket program at more than 1,000 Regal Entertainment Group screens, bringing its Mobile Ticket screen count (which includes Hollywood Theaters and Reading Cinemas) to more than 1,200 screens, with thousands more to come over the next several months.
