Family Sues Hospital and Surgeon for the Wrongful Death of Actor Bill Paxton

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 9, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The family of late actor Bill Paxton filed a wrongful death lawsuit today against Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and the surgeon who operated on him. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, alleges the surgeon performed an improper procedure resulting in the death of a beloved husband, father, and movie star.

According to the complaint, Paxton died on February 25, 2017.  The family contends the actions of the surgeon, Ali Khoynezhad, M.D., and inaction of Cedars-Sinai, caused Paxton to suffer complications that resulted in his death at the age of 61. 

"Bill Paxton and his family trusted the physicians and staff at this medical facility but instead Cedars-Sinai betrayed their trust," said plaintiff attorney Bruce Broillet. "The surgeon's actions resulted in this tragic and preventable death."

Dr. Khoynezhad left his position as a surgeon at Cedars-Sinai shortly after Paxton's death. "We are pursuing accountability and justice from a physician and a hospital that failed to adequately protect Mr. Paxton," said plaintiff attorney Steve Heimberg.

Bill Paxton rose to fame thanks to roles such as Morgan Earp in Tombstone (1993), Fred Haise in Apollo 13 (1995), the lead role in the 1996 hit Twister, and as treasure hunter Brock Lovett in Titanic (1997). His television credits include a lead role in HBO's Big Love, for which he earned three Golden Globe nominations, as well as Hatfields and McCoys. Paxton was also a director, most notably of the 2001 gothic horror film Frailty, then he went on to direct the feature film The Greatest Game Ever Played (2005). At the time of his death he was starring in the CBS television drama Training Day.

The actor is survived by his two children, James and Lydia, and his wife of 30 years, Louise Paxton. They are asking for privacy during this time and are not providing interviews.
