WASHINGTON, Jan. 13, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Family Research Council today praised House passage of the "Repeal Resolution," the budget which established the process for the House and Senate to pass a "reconciliation" bill that will repeal significant portions of Obamacare and defund most of Planned Parenthood's federal funding.
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins made the following comments in support of the resolution:
"I commend the House and Senate for passing the resolution that sets the stage for Congress to repeal many of the most onerous parts of Obamacare and to redirect a huge portion of Planned Parenthood's federal subsidies to healthcare centers offering services to women and children without subsidizing abortion on demand.
"Planned Parenthood's political arm spends millions of dollars every election cycle to keep its taxpayer funded gravy train going – to the tune of a half billion in tax dollars a year. That train needs to be redirected especially now that Planned Parenthood has been exposed on video bartering the cost of baby body parts. Congress is doing the right thing to redirect those tax dollars to community centers that will promote health care access without promoting abortion.
"Removing federal funds from Obamacare plans will restore the status quo on abortion funding by stopping subsidies for health care plans that cover abortion on demand. Congress must restore the principle that Americans should not pay for elective abortions through health care subsidies. The repeal of key Obamacare provisions will allow Congress to replace this law with patient centered health care that improves health care benefits, increases choice, and lowers health care costs.
"Today represents the first step by this new Congress and new administration in keeping their commitment to the American people to dismantle President Obama's disastrous healthcare scheme and end the forced partnership between taxpayers and organizations like Planned Parenthood. We are committed to assisting Congressional leadership and the new administration to repeal and replace Obamacare with a program that is patient-centered and respects the principle that federal funding and subsidies do not go to health care plans with abortion," concluded Perkins.
