HOLLYWOOD, Fla., Oct. 23, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Families who are #PumpedToJump to help find a cure for diabetes should join Bounce Away Diabetes (B.A.D.) at various participating Sky Zone parks across the U.S. and in Canada on Sunday, November 5, from 10 a.m. – noon. For every minute a participant bounces, Sky Zone will donate 50 cents to the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) in support of its mission to find a biological cure for diabetes.
"This is one time when being part of B.A.D. is doing GOOD," said Juan Brandt, Sky Zone South Florida owner who has a child with type 1 diabetes. "I wanted to create a fundraising event that would not only help my child and the DRI's effort to find a cure, but that would also educate the public about the warning signs of the disease."
To be held during November's Diabetes Awareness Month, this exhilarating experience will feature wall-to-wall aerial action, prizes and access to important information about the signs and symptoms of type 1 diabetes, which is often misdiagnosed. Brandt has enlisted 24 Sky Zone locations from Miami, FL, to Canada, to join his efforts. At each participating park, guests will receive complimentary SkySocks, an event T-shirt, and hours of #PumpedToJump fun for the discounted admission price of $15. Sky Zone Franchise Group is also supporting this effort through a generous monetary donation and promotional support.
"We are thrilled to be working with Juan Brandt who is completely committed to helping the Diabetes Research Institute find a cure for diabetes in honor of his daughter and millions more living with this devastating disease," said Joshua Rednik, president and CEO of the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation. "We can't thank all of the participating Sky Zone owners enough, and we hope the success of these inaugural events will lead to even greater participation next year."

About the Diabetes Research Institute and Foundation
The mission of the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation is to provide the Diabetes Research Institute with the funding necessary to cure diabetes now. The Diabetes Research Institute at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine leads the world in cure-focused research. As the largest and most comprehensive research center dedicated to curing diabetes, the DRI is aggressively working to develop a biological cure by restoring natural insulin production and normalizing blood sugar levels without imposing other risks. Researchers have already shown that transplanted islet cells allow patients to live without the need for insulin therapy. Some study participants have maintained insulin independence for more than 10 years. The DRI is now building upon these promising outcomes by developing a DRI BioHub, a bioengineered "mini organ" that mimics the native pancreas. While various BioHub platforms are being tested in preclinical and clinical studies, the DRI is also developing strategies to eliminate the need for anti-rejection drugs and reset the immune system to block autoimmunity.
