Falcon Computing announces support for Broad Institute's GATK4 pipelines on its accelerated genomics platform
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 25, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Falcon Computing Inc, a leading player in heterogenous accelerated computing, today announced the addition of Genome Analysis Toolkit (GATK) version 4.0 best practices pipelines on its accelerated genomics platform. GATK4, which is freely offered open-source to the genomics community from Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, has extensive speed and scalability improvements without sacrificing renowned accuracy.
With genomic data doubling every 7 months, data processing in an efficient and cost-effective manner has become critical. The Falcon Accelerated Genomics Pipeline (FAGP) provides a preconfigured solution for bioinformaticians and researchers to lower cost and accelerate secondary analysis of somatic and germline pipelines on private clouds & public clouds such as AWS, AliCloud & Huawei Cloud. FAGP has been delivering 10X acceleration on GATK3.x Best Practices pipelines: BWA alignment tools, Samtools, Picard & HaplotypeCaller. The same benefits are now available to GATK4 users.
Dr. Xinmin Li, Director of Technology Center for Genomics & Bioinformatics (TCGB) UCLA noted" At TCGB, we provide genome sequencing services to our nationwide clients. The Falcon Accelerated Genomics Pipeline has enabled us to cut our turn-around from days into few hours while maintaining the accuracy of industry standard GATK pipelines."
"Our customers in research & precision medicine are looking for cost-effective & high-performance sequencing on industry standard pipelines to ensure accuracy & reproducibility of results. We are actively delivering 10-12X speed-up of original GATK pipelines" explained Sunder Parameswaran, VP products & marketing, Falcon Computing.
"The GATK4 development team's main missions include producing algorithms that answer complex scientific questions with the greatest possible accuracy and sharing them as open-source tools for the genomics community," said Geraldine Van der Auwera, Associate Director of Outreach and Communications in the Data Sciences Platform of the Broad Institue. "It's great to see so many teams accelerate the operation of these tools and enable time-sensitive applications of GATK4."
