Faithful+Gould Performs Campus-wide Facility Condition Assessments for Georgia Tech
ATLANTA, July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Faithful+Gould (www.fgould.com), a U.S. based construction consulting and program management firm, has been retained by the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) to complete condition assessments on facilities across the Atlanta campus. The condition assessments are a part of Faithful+Gould's dynamic strategic facility consulting (SFC) service. The assessments will focus on over 200 buildings and significant service infrastructure. Every five years Georgia Tech evaluates its physical facilities to determine how to invest its funds to maintain and improve the performance of its portfolio.
SFC takes assessment services to a higher, more comprehensive and dynamic level, adding energy, security and sustainability evaluations to yield a more holistic review of each building. Combining this with Faithful+Gould's industry-recognized expertise in cost estimating, value engineering and project management assures a level of thoroughness and accuracy in capital budgeting projections.
Faithful+Gould Director Ben Dutton said, "Faithful+Gould is very excited to enter into a long-term partnership with Georgia Tech". He continues, "As one of the country's leading academic organizations, Georgia Tech is well versed in condition assessment practices and understands how Faithful+Gould's method of using locally-based, full-time experienced engineers for assessments, certificated cost estimators for development of repair and replacement recommendations and project managers / schedulers for buildability / sequencing review of recommendations provides a comprehensive, implementable and defendable product that can be used throughout its organization."
With the previous property assessments outdated and existing only as static documents, the university needs a dynamic system to help prioritize its demands so its capital and maintenance funds can be budgeted accurately. The university needs the ability to defend funding requests and demonstrate the consequences of deferring action.
In addition, Georgia Tech is seeking an economical way to operate its buildings. It wants informed advice and payback information regarding opportunities to improve energy efficiency and achieve compliance with mandates from its students, faculty and the Board of Regents to become more environmentally responsible where feasible.
Georgia Tech relies on a database of its eight-million-square-foot campus of buildings and the equipment and systems that comprise those assets. It's confidence level regarding the entirety and accuracy of its information needed improvement – Georgia Tech needed accuracy, predictability and a user-friendly system.
To add value and intelligence, Faithful+Gould is utilizing its own successful asset management software platform, iPlan™. Integrating this with Georgia Tech's current management software platform, Faithful+Gould is enhancing and updating the portfolio information. Capital will be identified, categorized, prioritized and accurately estimated.
Georgia Tech will be able to access and utilize iPlan™ over the course of the assignment and beyond to evaluate its benefits and advantages for its long-term planning. When the assignment is complete, Georgia Tech will have an asset management system that is a more useful and powerful tool to manage program facility operations with certainty and confidence, as befits a great technological university.
