COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., March 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation, one of the country's largest mortgage companies, will make available to real estate professionals two events, held in Colorado Springs and Loveland. These events will focus on overcoming the nation's struggles to provide housing opportunities for veterans. To date, Fairway has conducted 38 residential housing "Boot Camps" for real estate agents across the country. Each Realtor® not only earns three hours of continuing education, but also earns the Certified Military Residential Specialist designation (CMRS).

The brave men and women of the US Armed Forces have endured incredible hardships and sacrifice to defend our freedom, and often face uphill battles when it comes to employment, homeownership, and poverty. These unique challenges became the inspiration for Fairway's American Warrior Initiative, a company-wide mission that seeks to ease the transition between military and civilian life. CMRS training plays a vital role in this initiative.

In addition to the CMRS trainings, Fairway takes time to encourage the community to honor and support local veterans by setting examples intended to inspire other individuals and/or companies to either join or possibly implement other appreciation initiatives.

Speaking at both events is Sean Parnell, decorated Army Ranger and author of the NY Times best-selling book Outlaw Platoon, which details Parnell's experiences serving the U.S. military in Afghanistan. Parnell is a recipient of two Bronze Stars, one for Valor, and a Purple Heart. Now retired from the Army, Parnell serves as Goodwill Ambassador for Fairway and co-founder, along-side Louise Thaxton, of the American Warrior Initiative.

"Active duty and veteran service members often face a difficult time when trying to buy a home," noted Louise Thaxton, director of Fairway's American Warrior Initiative.

"The objective of Fairway's CMRS certification program is to train and equip real estate agents to handle with care the home purchase needs of active duty and former military clients," Thaxton said. Since launching its CMRS training in 2012, Fairway has trained over 4,000 mortgage and real estate professionals.
