Max Poyer and his wife, Beverly, were awarded their new four-bedroom, two story, 2,600-square-foot home located in suburban Delaware during Fairway's Washington, D.C. Boot Camp. Approximately 90 mortgage and real estate professionals attended the popular program, where they received training to handle the mortgage loan needs of active duty and veteran clients.
A Hawaii native, Poyer joined the U.S. Army in 1997 and last served as a communications technician with the 82nd Airborne Division 4th Brigade out of Fort Meade, Maryland. He was deployed to Afghanistan in October 2007 and returned in August 2008. Following his deployment, Poyer began experiencing nightmares, outbursts and erratic behavior and was eventually admitted to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where he was diagnosed with severe combat-related Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He was medically retired from the military and continues to work on his recovery. The Poyers have a five-year old daughter, Brianna, and are also taking care of Max's sister's four young children.
"Like many others before him, Poyer sacrificed his life and well-being to protect the freedom Americans enjoy, without asking for anything in return," said Louise Thaxton, director of Fairway's Military Mortgage Division. "We are deeply honored to be able to help the Poyers achieve the American dream of homeownership, and we will continue serving the mortgage needs of all active military and veterans just as they have served us."
Fairway Independent Mortgage is a proud supporter of the American military and has helped thousands of active troops and veterans nationwide realize their homeownership dreams. Fairway employees have pledged over $20,000 in donations per month over a 12-month period to participate in home presentations, which are sponsored by the Boot Campaign, a non-profit organization supporting returning American military troops, and made possible through the Military Warriors Support Foundation's Homes 4 Wounded Heroes program. After acquiring distressed properties from financial institutions—the Poyers' home was donated on behalf of Chase—the Military Warriors Support Foundation uses funds provided by Fairway to provide accommodations and modifications for the specific heroes. In addition to the home, the families receive three years of family and financial mentoring.
The home award took place at Fairway's latest Boot Camp, the first step for loan professionals to earn the designation of Military Mortgage Specialist. The designation, which is exclusive to Fairway, requires attendance at an initial two-day Boot Camp (or "basic training") followed by a 90-day coaching, mentoring, and training program whereby individuals are coached and instructed on how to best meet the specific home loan needs and requirements of active duty military and veterans.
"I am honored and privileged to be a part of Fairway, which is committed to supporting those veterans and their families who have sacrificed so much," said Justin Exner, branch manager of Fairway's Gainesville, Virginia office. "This program is something each and every Fairway employee rallies in support of, which is why it has been so incredible."
Also in attendance at the Fairway Boot Camp were Terri Murphy, real estate author and e-communication consultant, and U.S. Marine Sgt. Joey Jones, an inspirational speaker and double amputee who was wounded in action. For more about Fairway's Military Mortgage Specialist program, visit www.militarymortgagespecialists.com.
