Analyst Update: New Instrument, Strategic Partnership, Financial Results, and New Appointment
U.S. stocks closed lower on Tuesday amid sharp bond market volatility. The NASDAQ Composite closed at 4,976.19, down 0.35%, the S&P 500 fell 0.29% to 2,099.12, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average finished the day 0.20% lower, at 18,068.23. European stocks fell sharply on Tuesday as heavy bond market sell-off flustered investors. Germany's DAX 30 slipped 1.72%, France's CAC 40 tumbled 1.06%, and the London's FTSE 100 closed 1.37% lower on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Asian markets were mixed on Tuesday amid concern over Greece's future in the euro zone and interest rate cut in China.
According to a Bloomberg report dated May 6, 2015 Citigroup Inc. would provide U.S. investors with access to Market-Linked Certificates of Deposit (CDs) linked to the Citi Market Pilot 5 Excess Return Index. The CDs, which have tenure of seven years, do not pay interest, but permit U.S. investors to participate in the potential appreciation of the Index of at least 175% if held to maturity.
On April 28, 2015, Chase Commerce Solutions, the global payment processing, merchant acquiring and offers business of JPMorgan Chase & Co. announced a new strategic relationship with USA Technologies (USAT), a leader of wireless, cashless payment and M2M/IoT solutions for small-ticket, self-serve retailing industries.
On May 5, 2015, Itau Unibanco Holding announced its first quarter 2015 financial results. Recurring net income for first quarter 2015 was R$5.8 billion, up 28.2% YoY and up 2.6% when compared to the previous quarter.
Pfizer Inc, on May 6, 2015, announced two strategic appointments in the leadership of the Worldwide Research and Development organization, effective immediately. Michael D. Ehlers, M.D., Ph.D., has been appointed as Group Senior Vice President and Head of BioTherapeutics Research & Development and Site Head for Pfizer's Cambridge and Boston, Massachusetts locations.
MannKind Corporation reported its first quarter 2015 financial results on May 7, 2015. Total operating expenses for the first quarter 2015 were $21.7 million, a decline of 47.5% compared to the same period a year ago. By segment, research and development expenses fell by 64.2% YoY to $9.4 million in Q1 2015, reflecting the commercialization of Afrezza during the quarter and a reduction in non-cash stock compensation expense.
