FAA Furlough Over, But Uncertainty Remains
Congress must pass long-term funding bill
WASHINGTON, Aug. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- American Federation of Government Employees National President John Gage today issued the following statement in response to the Senate's approval of legislation ending the two-week partial shutdown at the Federal Aviation Administration:
"We are glad that the 4,000 FAA employees who were furloughed due to this congressional impasse will be able to get back to work. However, this is only a short-term solution. Congress must pass a permanent, long-term reauthorization bill that does not undermine workers' rights to join a union."
The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) is the largest federal employee union, representing 625,000 workers in the federal government and the government of the District of Columbia.
