One of the options in their holiday gift catalog is a truck containing 40,000 brand-new children's books.
First Book, a nonprofit social enterprise that provides new books and other educational resources for children from low-income families, will deliver the books to kids in need in honor of the extremely generous donor, or in honor of someone of the donor's choosing.
"We're excited to offer extreme giving opportunities like this to the many big-hearted people out there who want to make the holidays a little brighter for kids in need," said Kyle Zimmer, president and CEO of First Book.
Another extreme giving option from the First Book holiday gift catalog: adopting a Title I school by providing a brand-new book each month for every single student. The price tag? $15,000.
"In some of the country's poorest neighborhoods, there is only one book for every 300 children," Zimmer said. "There are amazing teachers and local program leaders out there committed to helping kids learn and succeed, but they need books and resources to do it."
First Book's holiday giving options aren't limited to these big-ticket items. Other options, such as a collection of baby books or a new library of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) titles, range from $25 to $2,500.
