EXPO-2017 Supports Central Asia's Largest Marathon

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --

Every year the major regional sporting event attracts many Kazakhs over the age of 16. Last year, 13,000 people took part in the race.

On Sunday EXPO-2017 employees joined a corporate "Ekiden" relay race, which involved a six-person team. The total distance of the race was 42 km 195 m. By taking part in the race, the representatives of the International Specialized Exhibition help to promote a healthy lifestyle.

About the Marathon

In 2013, the Almaty running race was included in the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), which unites more than 400 marathons and distance races in 120 countries. The race roads are certified in compliance with AIMS and IAAF regulations and are in the B category.

Almaty Marathon is a charity event; it fulfills one of the most important social functions encouraging a sense of social responsibility among the population.

About EXPO 2017 in Astana

The International Specialized Exhibition EXPO 2017 "Future Energy" is an exhibition and entertainment event which will take place from June 10 till September 10, 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan. It will last for 93 days and will be one of the most spectacular cultural sites this year. 115 countries and 21 international organizations have already confirmed their participation.

As part of Astana EXPO 2017, global policy documents will be drafted in order to promote an energy-efficient lifestyle and the wide use of renewable energy sources.
