Expion Appoints Bryan Wiener As Chairman
Seasoned Internet Entrepreneur Joins Executive Team to Accelerate Global Expansion
RALEIGH, N.C., Feb. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Enterprise social media software provider Expion announced today that Bryan Wiener, chairman and former global CEO of 360i, will be joining Expion as chairman. In this newly created role, Wiener, a seasoned Internet entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience working with global marketers at Fortune 500 companies, will lead the development of Expion's sales and marketing team, cultivate strategic partnerships and drive global expansion.
As chairman of Expion, Wiener led a strategic round of growth capital designed to drive the acquisition of key marketing and client service talent, fuel global expansion, and initiate the formation of a board of advisors, which will be announced in the coming months.
360i is the agency behind ground-breaking work for marketers at brands such as Oreo, Coca-Cola, Toyota, Kraft Foods and HBO®, and it was recently named the top U.S. digital agency according to Advertising Age, Adweek, MediaPost, and Mashable. In just eight years, Wiener grew the agency from 25 to more than 650 employees and the company's revenue increased from less than $5 M to $130 M. Wiener was also co-CEO of Innovation Interactive, the privately held parent company to 360i and digital media SaaS provider IgnitionOne, which was bought by Dentsu in 2010.
"Bryan is an invaluable addition to Expion, bringing deep sales and marketing experience as well as extensive knowledge of what it takes for a global brand to be successful in today's digital marketing landscape," said Peter Heffring, CEO and co-founder, Expion. "Bringing in Bryan to accelerate our go-to-market strategy is a great complement to our executive team of seasoned engineers and technologists."
Through his position on the Expion board, Wiener has been an advisor to the company for the past two years, dating back to 2012 when Dentsu invested in the social media platform. Wiener has stepped down as global CEO and retains his role as chairman of 360i.
"As the social platform of choice for global brands such as Coca-Cola, Mondelez International, Hilton Worldwide and IBM, Expion is the best-kept secret in the industry and well-positioned to shake things up," said Wiener. "Innovation by some of the first-generation social content management players was stunted by early acquisitions, making Expion uniquely positioned to solve today's complex enterprise and global marketing challenges. Peter is a successful entrepreneur that has built an incredible foundation for the company and I'm looking forward to working closely with him and the team to accelerate Expion's growth in this rapidly evolving industry."
Founded in 2010, Expion has built an enterprise SaaS solution that helps marketers manage, optimize and distribute social content at scale on both a local and global level to drive business in a world of real-time communications.
"We chose Expion as our global social platform because it provides insight into what's working and what isn't on our social channels and allows us to apply those takeaways across multiple brands in multiple regions in near real-time. We believe the platform represents the next generation of engagement, and having a content platform that includes a fully distributed ecosystem means that we are no longer constrained to war rooms and can deliver a consistent experience across all of our agency partners," said B. Bonin Bough, vice president of global media and consumer engagement at Mondelez International. "Bryan's deep understanding of the digital marketing space will help Expion become a world-class client strategy and service organization and accelerate the company's integrated paid and owned media roadmap, which will benefit all of its clients."
Expion has more than doubled its revenue during the past year and recently added Heineken and IBM to the list of brands using its platform to manage communications across a variety of social networks including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, YouTube, LinkedIn, and others.
