When asked about this treatment option, Dr. Mazzorana stated, "ECT remains the standard of care for treatment-resistant major depression. ECT involves a series of treatments under brief anesthesia that ultimately results in wellness by resetting circuits in the brain, much like rebooting a computer. The plan is to provide this treatment option at Lehigh Regional Medical Center this spring."

The National Institute of Mental Health reports, "Major depression is one of the most common mental disorders in the United States.
