Experienced Justice Department Lawyer Brian Hauck to Rejoin Jenner & Block as Partner
LOS ANGELES, June 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Jenner & Block LLP is pleased to announce that Brian Hauck, a former Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the US Department of Justice's Civil Division, is rejoining Jenner & Block as a partner in our Los Angeles and Washington, DC offices. He will join the firm's Government Controversies and Public Policy Litigation Practice. Having served in a variety of leadership positions in government over the past six years, Mr. Hauck has handled numerous legal issues of national importance, ranging from the National Mortgage Settlement to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
"We are excited that Brian is rejoining the firm and assuming a key role in our growing Government Controversies Practice," Jenner & Block Managing Partner Terrence J. Truax said. "Brian's experience in handling some of the most sensitive legal issues of our time will be a service to our clients in many respects. Not only can he help clients navigate difficult legal issues, but he also understands how clients' legal interests intersect with the full spectrum of related interests in the political, shareholder and media arenas."
Mr. Hauck will focus his efforts on controversies involving state and federal agencies, areas in which he has considerable background from his time as chief of staff and senior counsel to the Associate Attorney General of the United States and more recently as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General. While his practice focus will be in the litigation context, Mr. Hauck also has extensive investigative, reform and oversight experience that will help clients involved with investigations, examiner and monitorship engagements.
"I was fortunate to have worked with Brian before at Jenner & Block, as well as during my time as Associate Attorney General when he served as my chief of staff and senior counsel," said Thomas J. Perrelli, chair of the Jenner & Block's Government Controversies and Public Policy Litigation Practice. "Brian is an extraordinarily talented and creative lawyer. He has worked on some of the most complex legal and public policy issues of the last decade, demonstrating leadership and impeccable judgment. In this ever-changing legal environment, those skills are invaluable and will assist clients with many of their most pressing matters."
Mr. Hauck's roots at Jenner & Block run deep. He started his career as a litigation associate in 2001, focusing on entertainment and media law. He was elevated to partner in 2009. Mr. Hauck left the firm to serve as chief of staff and senior counsel to the US Associate Attorney General. In that role, he coordinated litigation, legislative and public affairs aspects of matters ranging from settlements of billion-dollar litigation to important public policy initiatives. Among his other accomplishments, Mr. Hauck helped build a coalition of 49 state attorneys general and several federal agencies for the landmark $25 billion National Mortgage Settlement.
"Brian's experience in both the public and private sector will be a great benefit to our clients," said Rick Richmond, managing partner of Jenner & Block's Los Angeles office. "We are excited that he is rejoining the firm and will be part of the Los Angeles office, which has experienced significant growth since opening in 2009 with only two partners. Today, we have nearly 40 lawyers who handle matters across the litigation and transactional landscape on behalf of leading and emerging companies."
In 2012, Mr. Hauck was promoted to Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the DOJ's Civil Division. In that role, he oversaw all significant tort litigation against the United States, including litigation alleging trillions of dollars of damages arising out of Hurricane Katrina; the Deepwater Horizon enforcement action; lawsuits against high-level officials for the United States' use of drones; and multidistrict litigation and settlement strategies.
"It's great to be coming home to Jenner & Block," Mr. Hauck said. "This firm's fabulously creative lawyers see the big picture and can navigate their clients to where they need to go. When clients have problems or opportunities with multiple dimensions, Jenner & Block is a go-to firm. I am eager to again be part of Jenner & Block's renowned litigation and investigatory practices."
