Experian Partners With American Student Assistance To Promote Financial Literacy To Students
Partnership to help students understand the dynamics of student loan debt and how credit decisions can impact their personal credit reports
COSTA MESA, Calif., Oct. 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Experian®, the leading global information services company, has announced a partnership with the nonprofit American Student Assistance® to provide support to recent graduates and students managing their student loan debt. The company is offering the Experian Credit EducatorSM product at no charge to students, graduates and their parents who have been in touch with ASA® and who need information about their credit and how their student funding decisions can affect their future creditworthiness.
Experian Credit Educator provides consumers with one-on-one telephone-based education sessions and guides them through important information related to their credit lives. This serves as one of many ways that Experian helps prepare students for making important financial decisions and enables students and parents to identify any potential issues with their credit report or score while learning their fundamentals from a reputable resource in a safe environment.
"We're committed to championing financial literacy across demographics and are excited to assist those who are struggling to make pivotal financial decisions," said Rod Griffin, Experian's director of public education. "Experian wants to help students gain the insight and resources needed to support their journey through school and beyond, which is precisely the reason Experian is partnering with ASA. We see this as furthering our mission to use data as a force for good."
Currently, ASA assists students so they can confidently approach, manage, pay for and pay back college costs. Through ASA's SALT® resource, a free educational consumer literacy program, the organization empowers students and parents to make better decisions regarding financing higher education and repaying student loans relevant to each student's individual situation.
As part of their partnership, Experian also supports ASA's SALT program and last year was proud to award ASA a $50,000 grant for its SALT Live mobile financial education platform. The program brings on-site services to high school students and first-generation and nontraditional college families to assist with college planning and financial aid questions and to provide financial education and debt management services.
"Oftentimes, students have received little to no financial education when they get to college and then are expected to make a number of life-altering financial decisions. We wanted to partner with Experian because students and parents are greatly in need of hands-on resources. Through innovative programs like Experian Credit Educator and SALT Live, ASA and Experian are delivering valuable information to those who need it most, right when they need it," said Paul Combe, American Student Assistance president and CEO.
By using the Experian Credit Educator tool, students and parents will receive foundational educational tools to better understand their personal credit situation and the importance of making positive credit decisions. The tool is just one example of the way Experian uses data for good and provides smart solutions to real-life challenges.
