Experian and Federal Computer Week Magazine to host seminar on the future of identity proofing and government e-authentication
Seminar focused on educating attendees on how to securely manage identities within and beyond a government agency's IT infrastructure
COSTA MESA, Calif., Nov. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Experian® and Federal Computer Week Magazine today announced a seminar that will educate attendees on the most secure and effective methods for protecting identities and controlling online access to government systems.
Taking place on Nov. 17, 2011, at 7:30 a.m. at the Willard Hotel in Washington, D.C., the seminar will cover how recent data breaches underscore an unprecedented danger to government systems and citizens' identities.
"As more and more agencies comply with open-government mandates to provide online access to citizens, the need to protect identities and control unauthorized access continues to grow," said Scott Waldron, president of Experian Government Services. "Clearly, there is a need for a seminar like this, where public- and private-sector leaders come together to share industry best practices and technology advancements with attendees from government agencies to help them combat cybersecurity threats such as identity fraud, data breaches and unauthorized access to accounts while educating them on the most effective methods to allow well-intentioned citizens to seamlessly access online government services."
The keynote presentation for the seminar will be given by Jeremy Grant, senior executive advisor for identity management for the National Institute of Standards and Technology on Cyber Security Initiatives and Policy — Now and Beyond 2012.
The seminar also will feature a panel on identity management standards and e-authentication that will be moderated by Christopher Dorobek, editor and publisher of The DorobekINSIDER. This panel will include:
- Deborah Gallagher, acting director, identity management division, Office of Government Policy, General Services Administration
- Paul Grant, special assistant for federated identity management and external partnering, Office of the Chief Information Officer, Department of Defense
- Tony Hadley, senior vice president, Government Affairs and Public Policy, Experian
- Steve Kerr, IdAM portfolio coordinator, Office of the Program Manager, Information Sharing Environment (PM-ISE)
Sal Guariano, vice president, Government Services for Experian, will moderate a session entitled "Implementing eAuthentication Best Practices in Your Agency — Case Studies and Lessons Learned from the Public and Private Sectors." The panel will include:
- Keir Breitenfeld, senior director of product management and marketing, Fraud and Identity Solutions, Experian
- Nicholas Piazzola, senior director, Government Authentication Solutions, Symantec
- Kim Baldwin Sparks, director for the division of authentication, Office of Electronic Services, Social Security Administration
- Dr. Thomas E. Sullivan, chief strategic officer, DrFirst Inc.
"As everybody is doing more online — including doing business online — ensuring you are who you say you are becomes more important every day," said Dorobek. "This seminar brings together the key thought leaders, and we're looking forward to getting their take on how government is impacted by the cybersecurity policies and requirements. We also will look at some of the cutting-edge approaches that government organizations are using to identity proof the systems that they are using now."
