Expanding deposit base lifts BBVA Compass to No. 21 on list of nation's largest commercial banks
- FDIC data show bank's solid growth
- FDIC data reveal bank's deposits grew nearly twice as fast as national average

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Oct. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- BBVA Compass announced today that its year-over-year deposit growth of nearly double the national average moved the bank up a notch to No. 21 on the list of the largest commercial banks in the country, according to data from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
BBVA Compass grew its year-over-year deposits by 11.3 percent versus the national average of 6.3 percent.
The data revealed that BBVA Compass' deposit market share increased in several of its key metropolitan statistical areas including Birmingham and Montgomery in Alabama; Phoenix and Tucson in Arizona; Jacksonville, Fla.; and in Austin, McAllen, San Antonio and the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex in Texas. Its market share also increased statewide in Alabama, Arizona, Colorado and Florida.
