Exciting World of Hospitality Management Opens for Star Graduate
NEW YORK, Oct. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Life hasn't always been easy for Duane Webb but that hasn't stopped the Star Career Academy graduate from keeping things moving in the right direction.
Webb is a recent graduate of Star Career Academy in New York, where he studied Hotel and Restaurant Management. Today, Webb is employed in guest services for Hilton Worldwide, one of the largest hospitality companies in the world.
"I've been knocked down a few times in life," he says. "However, through education and the help of experienced individuals I was able to progress and advance in my life."
Just prior to and while he was studying Hotel and Restaurant Management, he worked at the New York Sports Club as a front desk associate.
Webb cited the field trips to actual hotels as being the best aspect of the educational experience.
"Every discussion with real professionals in the field and discussing real issues that happen in the hotel industry really made a difference," he says. "Connecting with other individuals that share similar backgrounds and challenges and learning what motivated others really played a role in preparing me for my current position."
Many aspects of his educational journey contributed to making Webb's transition to his current position an easy one.
"From being encouraged to be at school on time, preparing and studying, I have learned lessons," he says. "We learned how to do things the right way – to not take short cuts – as well as to learn to do things manually and constantly work on our weaknesses."
Webb has a passion for helping people and watching the community evolve. He volunteers in assisting the community to enhance lives through exercise, wellness and fitness.
"I define success as being able to handle your responsibilities and being accountable for circumstances," he adds. "It's important to follow your passion and have the drive to succeed no matter the circumstance."
Outside of work, Webb enjoys sports and cooking and he is a big fan of The Food Network.
"When things look darkest, focus on the light and there is always a light at the end of the tunnel," he says. "Stay positive and be willing to make sacrifices to achieve goals. Dreams are attainable."
