Exar Releases Scalable High Voltage, High Current Step-down PowerBlox™ Converter
Device is Pin and Function Compatible to Industry's Most Popular 3 Amp Step-down Converters
FREMONT, Calif., Feb. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Exar Corporation (Nasdaq: EXAR) unveiled today the XRP7665, a new synchronous Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) step-down converter with a maximum load current of 3 Amps and operating input voltage of up to 18V. This device is the latest addition to Exar's industry acclaimed PowerBlox family of high-voltage, high-current step-down regulators.
Optimized for a 12V input voltage rail, yet equally capable of operating from the popular 5V rail, the XRP7665 addresses the needs for smaller footprint and substantial savings in cost sensitive applications. These include audio-video equipment such as set-top boxes, telecom, computing peripherals and more generally distributed point-of-load conversions.
"The XRP7665 offers system architects a scalable solution to upgrade to a 3 Amp capable point of load from our popular 2 Amp XRP7664 solution," said Eric Pittana, director of marketing, Power Product Line. "The XRP7665 complements our existing 2 Amp to 12 Amp converters from Exar's PowerBlox family and is part of Exar's continuous effort to provide designers with higher performing and cost effective solutions for DC to DC power conversions."
Key Product Features
Reaching up to 93% efficiency in a compact "green" SOIC package, the XRP7665 operates at a fixed 340 kHz switching frequency allowing for small external components. The output voltage can be adjusted down to 0.925V, with 2.7% accuracy, via two external resistors, which can be achieved from any single input voltage from 4.75V to 18V. Design flexibility of any point-of-load supply with the XRP7665 is further enhanced with the availability of a dedicated enable function and programmable soft start. Built-in current limit, output over voltage and thermal shutdown protection provide the XRP7665 with fail-safe operations.
Power Management Products
Highly reliable, accurate, power management is a critical part of any technology system. Exar has a broad array of high-performance and industry-proven power management solutions including handset and lighting controls, power conversion, and standard linear devices.
Prices, Packages, Availability and Additional Information
The XRP7665 is available now in volume quantities and offered in a RoHS compliant, "green" halogen free Exposed Pad 8-pin SOIC package. Pricing starts at $0.39 for 1K units.
