Evolving Data Protection in the Era of Hyperconvergence

Take the data protection market, for example. When virtualization took off in the mid-2000s, simple tasks like backup and recovery required new paradigms. VM level backup created more than just a cottage industry, and customers were more than happy to know they had solutions out there that could help fix their backup problems. And, there were many solutions on the market to address a customer's challenges. Fast forward to today. Now, with the emergence and adoption of hyperconverged infrastructures where the compute, network and storage resources are tightly integrated and engineered to maximize performance, data protection is again evolving in a significant way forward.

It's within this shift forward that I'm proud to announce a major accomplishment that our engineering team completed today. We announced the general availability of our newest solution, HYCU. HYCU powered by Comtrade Software is redefining the way companies leveraging Nutanix Enterprise Cloud platform are handling their data protection challenges.

And, it's much, much more than just making sure the backup completes on time or that organizations are simply meeting Recovery Time and Recovery Point Objectives. HYCU is the first purpose built data protection solution for Nutanix customers. What does that mean?

• Built for Nutanix Customers: it means integrating data protection as tightly as possible within the system. It also means making sure the user can use the software from within an easily recognizable and understood context.
• Simplicity: It means making sure to stay true to the focus for hyperconverged infrastructures, keeping things simple.
• It's All About the Apps: It means making sure the focus is placed squarely on the application. Organizations need to make sure their data protection solution delivers application-focused backup that provides application-specific, granular recovery. The less time spent on a virtual machine (VM) centric approach of data management the better.

As we all know, when any organization implements Nutanix Enterprise Cloud Platform, it has embarked on a journey to rethink the way it is going to buy and manage their infrastructure. Data protection should be in lock step with this journey and should be an integral part of the production infrastructure. We're excited to provide Nutanix customers with a simple yet elegant way to give them a holistic view on what applications are running in each of their VMs. This will enable them to make the right choice when it comes to making smart tradeoffs with applications and prioritizing which problem to solve first.
