Controller pairs with graphic and text-based TETRIX® Ardublockly software
PITTSBURG, Kan., Sept. 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Middle schoolers are getting more of what they want and need – control – thanks to the TETRIX® PULSE™ Robotics Controller. Pitsco Education created the controller with beginning programmers and the TETRIX PRIME robotics system primarily in mind.
The key to making this controller accessible to new programmers lies in the unique TETRIX Ardublockly software that bridges the gap between text-based and graphic coding.
"The PULSE controller uses the TETRIX Ardublockly software that was specifically designed for use with the TETRIX PRIME building system," said Curriculum Specialist Tammy Pankey, author of the PULSE curriculum. "Students who have never programmed before will find the interface easy to use with graphic programming. Students can also see the text-based code as they place different blocks to create their programs."
Programming is an increasingly important STEM activity in schools, and PULSE provides educators a way to easily introduce programming at the middle school level.
"Robotics programming provides a real-life application of how things work," Pankey added. "There are so many applications of robotics programming within different curriculum areas. Programming provides a great opportunity for students to solve problems, troubleshoot solutions, and think analytically."
Key features of the TETRIX PULSE Robotics Controller include:
- A small footprint designed to work with TETRIX PRIME robots.
- Two DC motor control ports and six servo ports.
- Six sensor ports: three digital and three analog.
- Three LED lights: red, green, and yellow.
- One i2C port, one USB programming port, and two quadrature encoder input ports.
To facilitate teaching with PULSE, a programming guide was created to aid educators in starting students from the first steps in programming and moving through a series of progressive activities to build programming knowledge and confidence. In total, there are five Getting Started activities, a build activity, and 10 programming activities, plus extensions, career links, standards, and more – approximately 15 hours of curriculum.
