Everplans Positions Itself For Growth and Success with Key Management Hires
NEW YORK, Nov. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Everplans, the technology startup revolutionizing the way people get their affairs in order, announced today a number of key hires including Editorial Director Gene Newman (former Editor-in-Chief of Maxim.com) and Chief Technology Officer Warren Habib (formerly of MTV Networks, Fotolog, and AddThis).
Both roles will help the company to generate compelling content and utilities for their new platform, which is currently in invitation-only Beta. Everplans closed a significant seed round of funding this summer and will be widely releasing its new personal planning product in early 2014.
"Everplans is on a mission to help people—from Millennials to Baby Boomers to the aging—better understand that they don't have to spend a lot of money, time, or effort to get basic plans in place to protect their families," said Abby Schneiderman, co-founder of Everplans. "Our mantra and business proposition—that everyone needs an exit strategy for life—is a previously unexplored white space for technology startups, and the fact that we've been able to attract such enormously talented domain experts validates our business model."
With 15 years experience leading content strategies for lifestyle digital properties, Gene Newman will serve as Editorial Director for Everplans. In this role Gene will assume responsibility for generating engaging content related to life and end-of-life planning that will help shed a new light on topics that are traditionally considered dreaded and dark. Gene recently served as General Manager of Thrillist, Editor-in-Chief/Editorial Director of Maxim.com, and Digital Editorial Director of Hachette Filipacchi Digital (including Elle.com, WomansDay.com and Premiere.com).
"I've covered every aspect of lifestyle and irresponsibility, and I'm excited by the challenge of making a seemingly insurmountable topic more accessible for all consumers," said Gene Newman, Editorial Director, Everplans. "Dealing with wills, end-of-life choices, and lawyers can be incredibly overwhelming, and my primary goal will be to humanize and simplify all of these decisions so that getting plans in place can be less stressful."
Warren Habib joins Everplans with more than 25 years experience in technology and Internet startups, including serving as CTO of Fotolog, (Everplans co-founder Adam Seifer's former venture), CTO of online advertising firm XGraph (acquired by AddThis), SVP of Online Platform Development at MTV Networks, and VP Engineering at Solbright. As Everplans gears up to roll out its new service in early 2014, Warren's leadership will be critical in developing a scalable, secure and robust platform.
Everplans also added valuable expertise from the death care and financial services industries:
- Elizabeth Meyer, Everplans' resident funeral planning expert, has spent the past four years serving as a Family Services Liaison at New York's Frank E. Campbell funeral home and Riverside Memorial Chapel, helping families create exceptional, tailored services. She will be the voice of the Funeral Guru, offering her insights and expertise in the field of funeral planning.
- As Director of Business Development at Everplans, Michael Herman will have responsibility for creating channel partnerships. Formerly an SVP at Merrill Lynch, he has deep expertise in the financial services arena, a key component of Everplans' offering.
